Prince Rogers Nelson

Prince Rogers Nelson, généralement connu sous son premier pseudonyme de Prince, est un auteur-compositeur-chanteur américain, s'étant illustré depuis la fin des années 1970 comme un fantasque artiste de rock.

Prince est né le 7 juin 1958 à Minneapolis, ville où il demeure toujours.

Pendant une période, il refusa de porter un quelconque nom d'artiste, il fut donc surnommé TAKFAP, acronyme de « The artist known formerly as Prince ». Puis il accepta finalement le nom de Love Symbol.

Son style musical, inspiré par le funk expérimental de Shuggie Otis, entre autres, oscille entre le rock et le funk groovy.

Ses amateurs lui reconnaissent en outre un certain sens de la mélodie, perceptible dans les ballades disséminées dans son abondante discographie (au moins une ballade par album), et un certain penchant pour le savoir-faire des crooners.
